A "village" club in an inner city environment.St Chads Cricket Club was founded on its current site in Far Headingley in the early 1890's, playing at their ground in front of St Chads' Church. The original team played friendly games on both Wednesdays and Saturdays.
The club merged with Headingley Broomfield Cricket Club in 1979 to form St Chads Broomfield, and the club fielded two sides in the Wetherby League in its first year. In the early 1980's a 3rd XI was formed, initially to play friendlies, before joining the Dales Council league, and becoming a member of the wetherby league in the mid 1990's
Currently the club still runs three sides in the Wetherby League on Saturday Afternoons. The 1st and 2nd XI still play infront of St Chads to the sounds of the church bells on a saturday afternoon, and the 3rd XI play a short distance away at Glen Road. In 1987 the 1st XI won the league championship, but performances have been mixed in recent years, leading to their first ever relegation from the top division in 2006. The 2nd and 3rd XI's continue to perform strongly and move between the 2nd/3rd and 5th/6th divisions respectively.
We have junior teams at U7, U9, U11, U13, U15 and U17 age groups and are trying to get enough young ladies to have an U13 girls team.
We are closing in on our ClubMark accreditation and work hard to make the Club an enjoyable and safe one to be part of!
